The short answer: Mercury is retrograde three times in 2026 — February 26 – March 20 in Pisces, June 29 – July 23 in Cancer, and October 24 – November 13 in Scorpio — and three times in 2027, starting February 9 in Pisces. Each window is bracketed by a shadow period: the current cycle's shadow runs October 4 – November 30, 2026. The full table on this page lists every window and shadow.
Mercury retrograde dates 2026
Mercury is retrograde three times in 2026 — unusually, all three fall in water signs, which astrologers read as a year of emotional review: feelings, family, memory and intuition get the rewind rather than pure logistics.
| Retrograde | Dates | Sign | Shadow period |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | February 26 – March 20, 2026 | Pisces | February 11 – April 9 |

Right now: the third retrograde of 2026 is active until November 13, 2026. Its shadow clears November 30 — after that, the sky is fully direct until February 2027.
Mercury retrograde dates 2027
| Retrograde | Dates | Sign |
|---|---|---|
| First | February 9 – March 3, 2027 | Pisces, backing into Aquarius |
| Second | Starts June 10, 2027 (about three weeks) | Gemini |
| Third | Starts October 7, 2027 (about three weeks) | Libra, backing into Virgo |
Each 2027 shadow period begins roughly two to three weeks before the retrograde start date and ends two to three weeks after Mercury goes direct; the shadow period guide explains how those windows work.
What the sign of a retrograde changes
The sign Mercury is retrograde in flavors the review. Water-sign retrogrades (all of 2026) stir feelings, old memories and family matters — expect the rewind to be emotional. Earth-sign retrogrades hit work, money and the body. Air-sign retrogrades — like the 2027 Gemini and Libra cycles — tangle talk, tech and agreements most directly. Fire-sign retrogrades revisit identity, pride and plans. If your Sun or rising sign matches the retrograde sign, astrologers say you feel the cycle more personally — and also get the most from its review. For example, the current Scorpio cycle is a water-sign retrograde, so its review runs through feelings, family and old memories first.
How to plan with this calendar
- Before the pre-shadow: finish launches, sign what is ready, buy the device, back everything up.
- During retrograde: review, revise, repair, reconnect. Expect delays and build them in.
- Post-shadow: wait for the shadow to clear before treating a retrograde decision as final — especially the November 30, 2026 clearing before December commitments.
